PSIT offered the right support at very short notice, at reasonable cost, when we really needed it
Ian Edwards,
Chair of Trustee, Comet Pension Scheme
I would recommend them to anyone - I have dealt with a number of other independent trustee firms and would rate PSIT as the best. We are very happy with Mark and the service we get.
Julia Morton,

James is Head of Trusteeship at PS Independent Trustees (PSIT), having joined in 2014 as a Client Director. He acts as a professional pension trustee for PSIT clients.

Career history

James started his pensions career in 1997 with Bacon & Woodrow, working in the specialist personal pension misselling loss calculation department.

James’ career developed at Hewitt Associates into both team leader and client relationhsip management roles. His responsibilities included pension scheme secretarial, outsourced pension management and administration client management for a range of defined benefit (DB) and defined contribution (DC) schemes. His largest client had over 5,000 members.

In 2007, James moved into trusteeship when he joined Aspen plc (now Capita Fiduciary). His pension trustee appointments focused mainly on ongoing DB schemes, but he also worked with DC arrangements, schemes in the PPF and FAS assessment periods and in wind up.

The experience and technical expertise James has gained means he understands the risks faced by schemes of different sizes and complexities, and how to manage them effectively. He knows the importance of challenging advisers to get advice that is both appropriate for the scheme and clearly understood by all the trustee board.

James believes trustee boards and sponsoring employers should have a close working relationship. By working collaboratively, it is much easier to agree and implement strategic actions to help the funding challenges faced by defined benefit schemes.

James regularly presents trustee training on a wide range of topics including pension scheme investments, actuarial valuations, trustee responsibilities and pension scheme governance. He is qualified as an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute (APMI).
